About Me

My name is Brian Meloche, and I am a ColdFusion developer.

Since I get asked this a lot...

Pronunciation of My Last Name: Just remember... Meloche rhymes with "wash", which is not pronounced "warsh" a la some Midwesterners (like my mother-in-law). Think "Melosh" (which is a derivative of Meloche). Pronouncing it "Melowche" is acceptable, but not right! :-) And... it's TWO syllables!

I am originally from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, born about a mile from the U.S. border. I graduated from Herman Secondary School in Windsor, and then went to the University of Waterloo for a Math/Computer Science degree (finished with a BA, long story) and then returned to Seneca College for a diploma in Computer Graphics. I've been doing a combination of web design and development since 1997, and have over seventeen years IT experience. First, I was a programmer (pre-web), then became a designer, and slowly went into web development from web design. I ran a small web design and development company in Toronto for three years, when I took a job as senior and then lead developer at a company in Richmond Hill, Ontario, before moving to the U.S. in 2000.

I was a "staff augmentation" consulting developer for almost four years in various places in the U.S. before I joined my current employer in 2004 as Senior Web Developer. I work at a growing wholesale company with a large web presence in Cleveland, Ohio. Recently, I was promoted to the new position of Senior Technical Analyst. Today, I don't do the day to day coding. Instead, I analyze, write lots of specs on how to improve code and implement projects, document our existing environments, and basically lay out everything that has to be done, for a developer to do. I still get into the code, though, on a daily basis, but I'm usually not the developer, unless it's the "hard stuff". I do technical implementations of new web architecture, and when that's at an early stage, I will be coding all of it. I am still code a lot on the side, including for the user group and presentations.

I have been working with ColdFusion since 1998, and pretty much full time since 2000. I also know a fair bit of client side and server side technologies - CSS, JavaScript, SQL, XML and AJAX, and still learning every day. I have recently started to contribute to a few open source projects as well.

I am the manager and co-founder of the Cleveland CFUG. I am the founder and co-manager of the Cleveland AUG, which I managed for over three years. I also founded and managed the West Virginia Macromedia User Group, now called KVWILD.

My wife, Julie, and I have been married since 2004. I proposed to her in hour 18 of our first date, which lasted approximately 72 hours! We were married less than five months later.

No kids, but lots of animals! We have three dogs, five cats and two cats we are fostering. I've posted some pics on the blog, and I'll post more as time goes on.
