I thought I would make an entry, since it's been a few weeks.

I spent this week in Actuate training. Actuate is a reporting tool like Crystal, but much more robust. The first four days were spent on the designer, and today was working on the spreadsheet tool. It does have a web component, but it was mostly using VB and using the layout tool.

I didn't expect to enjoy it, but I did. I guess I appreciate the complexity of the solution and being involved in its rollout. It was also nice to stretch a little and work on something new for once.

It looks like Actuate could become a big part of what I do around here.

Brian,

Have you started using Actuate with CF yet? We've been using it with CF for about 6 years now. Mostly, we use CF for the UI and post the info to Actuate for it to do the actual reporting. We also have a few RIA's with Flash/Flash Remoting/CF that use Actuate on the back end for report generation as well.

Is there anywhere in Cleveland that I can get Actuate training? I know Crystal, Infomaker and Powerbuilder but this much different than those.

Has your company used Actuate long?

I'm not at liberty to discuss it at this time.
